Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving week Sterling worked Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. He had the rest of the week off. And the boys had Wednesday - Friday off of school. So it was a nice relaxing at home holiday week and weekend.

I made sure the boys did a lot of homework. Tiberias has trouble correctly writting 3s so he worked on that. Lachoneus has a lot less homework than his previous two years. I'm wondering if his teacher gives out little homework in her class this year or if Luke's last two teachers gave out extra because he was behind then? Which would mean he is ahead now?

For Thanksgiving we did our usual...invite military coworkers to join us for our Thanksgiving lunch. But this year it was perfect. Sterling made the turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and he bought rolls. He made real whipped cream for the pumpkin pie I made from scratch. Luke had been asking for pumpkin pie for months and I made him wait. So I made three pies.

We had one of Sterling's coworkers join us, a couple from our ward (the Loras) and a sister from our ward whose husband is deployed. Christian Lora , I believe, works in Ster's area but in the control room, whereas Sterling is in the tower. Christian and Tamara are a nice young couple who moved here less than a year ago. We met them briefly at church when they first arrived. Then we met them at a squadron barbecue picnic. Then they were out of town half of the year. Now they are back and in our ward. Turns out they are friends(from college) with my sister's husband Chubbz. They figured that out when Christian realized I greatly resemble Eliza.

The sister who joined us while her husband is deployed is Kristen Dubvorak. Along with her daughter Chloe who has just turned 18 months old (so now starting in nursery).

Our guests brought stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole and pies. We had so many pies! Pumpkin, chocolate, blueberry and cherry.

We ate lunch and chatted. Then we remained at the dinning table chatting a while before going downstairs to pick a movie. We watched In Time. Halfway through we took a pie break. A pie feast.

It was such a fun day!

Sterling went out shopping that evening. He went to Walmart where the store was very organized and the crowds were therefore pleasant. Sterling got movies, toys and pajamas. He ended up going back the next day and buying more things for Christmas.  We typically have our Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving and Black Friday always makes us buy more than we need. But it's fun.

All month we taught the kids what they should be thankful for and helped them express their gratitude as well. They had a lot of fun making thankful turkies which we displayed on our art wall.

The day after Thanksgiving I had a photo shoot. Sterling watched the kids downstairs while I did a photo shoot upstairs. It went great. Then after lunch we set up our Christmas trees and decorated them. We decorated for Christmas over the next couple days. It snowed Thanksgiving day and the days to follow. Beautiful!

I made a Christmas advent calendar wall hanging. This year each child takes a turn every three days to get the goody from the calendar. There are mini candy canes, a few chocolate kisses and lego men. :) Each day also includes a scriptures about the Savior's birth.
