After the graduation we met at the University Mall for
lunch. The kids played at the play room and then we went to Build A Bear.
We never thought we would actually do Build A Bear because
it is expensive! But we broke down when we saw the awesome new options…Star
Wars! We thought “These Star Wars options are perfect for our children.” They
also had Power Ranger bears we wanted Ty to choose from. We would have chosen Star Wars for Luke,
Power Ranger for Ty and a girly cat for Athena. But we knew that they would
likely choose things we thought not as cool. Because…kids are disappointing
that way. j/k I mean, they choose the unexpected. In that sense they are very
predictable.
As soon as we got to Build A Bear Athena found a rainbow
leopard she had to have. So I chose some accessories to personalize it…a
gymnastics outfit because Athena is in gymnastics and roller skates.
Luke chose Sonic the Hedgehog because he is really into that
right now. And it’s a cool stuffed character.
Tiberias picked a bear and a Darth Vador outfit for it. As the
boys will filling their characters Athena changed her mind about what she
wanted. She was now determined to have Chewbacca. I tried to convince her that
her first choice was the best. No luck.
We filled a Chewbacca.
The kids chose sounds to come from the characters. Luke
chose Sonic’s theme song. Ty chose a Star Wars song. And what would Athena
choose to go inside her Chewbacca? Trolls song (If You Knock Me Over I Will Get
Back Up Again), of course. Ha ha!
They had Chewy sounds available but she didn’t like it.
Then we made the birth certificates where the children
decide what their real names will be. Luke chose Sonic, Ty chose Darth Vader
and Athena chose Chewbacca. I have very creative children, right?
When anyone would say Athena had “Chewy” she would correct
them because his name is “Chewbacca!”
Everyone got a kick out of Athena’s Chewbacca that stood over half as tall as she
is and sings a feminine song from Trolls.
After the mall we went to an LDS church to play games and
spend the afternoon and evening. We put up the volleyball net and played
volleyball. That was a lot of fun and a bit painful.
I was disappointed that the nursery toys were locked up so
the kids had nothing to play with.
We did find a Frisbee and a ball on the stage when we
arrived. So we started playing with those. It didn’t take long for Luke to
throw the Frisbee and have it fly under a locked closet door. Gone.
As soon as that had disappeared Isaiah threw the ball and it
got stuck on the wall beams near the ceiling! Ooops.
So Abi brought us some of Grandma’s balls and toys that we
were determined not to make vanish like the first toys.
We ate pizza, drank soda, had salad and cookies. We had a
watermelon but the kitchen was locked so we couldn’t cut it.
Dad and Mom Boren gave Chubbz a graduation gift…a set of hot
sauces. He loved it.
At the end of that event we said our goodbyes. The next few
days we would spend with the Roundys and then head home to SD.
It was great to see Isaiah after like five years. His plan
is to move to TX in the Fall. He is in the army and his experience in Germany
was a miserable one. So it is good he gets to come back to the states now.
David and Tereasa live in TX. Hopefully this means they will
car pool to the Boren reunion next Summer. My fear is that family members won’t
commit to coming and we won’t have all our siblings at the reunion. I am
excited to have the event in California this time. I love the beaches! And there
is a lot of fun things to do there. We just have to decide which ones we are
going to spend money on.
And it will be nice for Corinna and her family to not have
to travel for the reunion this time.
On Saturday we went to Nickel City for some play time. Denise,
Simone, Abi, Ster, myself and the kids.
We spent time at the Lion’s park. We drove to Salt Lake to
Leatherbys. That is always a real treat for everyone. My kids typically don’t
get to have as much ice cream as they can possibly eat. Lol
We played games at the Roundy house that evening. The party
didn’t stay late though…Ster and I had to get up early the next morning to “hit
the road.”
Leatherby's!
Lion's Park
Sunday we traveled all day. We stopped at Cove Fort for the
first time ever. We experienced a hand cart and learned a bit about pioneers
that travelled that way. We ate a packed lunch there.
