Summer Vacation

June 16 we went on another road trip to Utah.
We stopped in WY for a short break:

And we stopped at Independance rock for dinner

We hit the road around 1pm and arrived in Utah after midnight.
Sunday we went to dad and mom's ward at 1pm. Sunday was Father's day. The kids and I honored Sterling with two new tshirts. One with a superman styled shield that is full of words that describe how amazing a father Ster is. The second shirt uses super heroes to describe him as a man i.e. "As strong as Hulk/as fast as Superman"

We also celebrated Dad Roundy in the evening. Some of Ster's siblings came over to celebrate. We ate a delicious dinner together and had brownies and ice cream for dessert.

Halfway through Primary Ster and I decided to take the kids back to grandma's house. We went to pick up the kids but Athena's teachers said she had wandered off  and they just then found her and brought her back. Athena said "I met a man... and he gave me a rock to keep forever and ever!"
Now, we never want our daughter to get lost and meet strange men who befriend them and give them gifts! But we were in Sterling's parents' ward and church building so it was less scary. Sterling said "Athena, take me to the man who gave you the stone." She did. And it turns out it's a man Sterling knows who loves stones and keeps some cool ones in his pocket. So he gave one to Athena and it's very pretty.

Monday the kids went with Grandma to Storytime in the park (one street over). Sterling and I took that opportunity to go shopping without kiddos. We joined them at the park after our shopping trip.

Monday evening Mom (note how I say "grandma" when it involves the children and "Mom" when it doesn't as much) had a party with her siblings at her home. So we went two streets over to Travis and Aubri's house and had a party too. Hannah and Stewart came as well as Trevor and Simone and Abi. We ate dinner and then played games.

 Travis' awesome back yard (below).

Grandma came over when it was getting late and was so kind to take our children from us and put them to bed. Ster and I were able to stay longer and play games.

Early the next morning we got up for a hike. 6am! We met Trevor, Travis and Aubri there.

It was a long, hard hike for the kids. But they made it.

At the top of the Y:

 Snack time

Back down the mountain we go...

Photos taken by Sterling:

Once we left the mountain in our van we decided we'd treat the kids to donuts. They get a good donut maybe once a year so it is a real treat. We took them to Krispy Cremes in Orem.
We watched the donuts being made and we picked a dozen assorted ones. We each ate one in the store with grandma. MMmm...best donuts ever!

Then at home we let the kids sample the different kinds from the box. And we shared with more Roundys, of course.

That afternoon we went to Springville to the splash pad. It is awesome! With the water area and a playground too.

Chloe was unsettled by the brightness of the strong sunshine and the splashing of the water toward her face. But she warmed up to it. And her brother Silas was loving it from the start!
Athena was all over the place...from one side of the water pad to the other. Always moving and fast too.

Tuesday evening we drove up to Draper for Leatherby's
Eliza, Chubbz and Nephi met us there. We had a great time! So delicious and so much fun!!

Wednesday afternoon we went to the Bean Museum.

Sterling's photographs:

And a little later that day to Spanish Fork to Simone's father's little farm. There we saw many cows and pet and fed some too! There were two cows we were able to meet and play with. They would push our hand from on top of their heads and lick us too. It was very fun.

We saw two big pigs and three small pigs. We saw chickens.
We ate fresh strawberries right off the plant! Mmmm, good!
We walked by beehive boxes and went into a little orchard for some fresh cherries.
Simone's dad was there to show us around and he even used his helium tank to give the children each a balloon!

Thursday we did a portrait shoot for Aubri in the morning in their front yard.

Sterling did the photography, Mom held the reflector to brighten up the children and I posed the kids.
One photo happened to reflect the behind the scenes crew in action. So Ster cropped in close and it turned out pretty cool.
