COVID19 & the World Today

Sterling parents taught him and my parents taught me to prepare for world or community disaster. Keep a good food and water supply, first aid kit, 24 hour emergency backpack.

As children we learned that scriptures tell us of disasters that will happen in the years before Christ's Second Coming. We were raised aware that bad things will happen and we will need to be prepared to survive and take care of our families.
We were also taught that the wickedness of the world will become so raw. Satan will fool most of the world before Christ comes to reign on the earth again.
That we and our children will have to be spiritually strong and endure emotional hardships.

We had no clue what ideas Satan would put into this world. What he would convince the people of the earth to swear is "good" even though God said it is wrong. What would become popular.
We couldn't even imagine what these things could be.

As a child I quickly learned that being a Christian was not a popular thing to do. That worldly people, sinful people, resent Christians. But I always believed in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world, the chosen Son of God.
I always knew God existed and is all powerful and all knowing. I always felt His existence, His presence, His guidance.

Today Christians are considered , pretty much, evil. Judgemental, condemning, closed-minded and rude.
Christians, good Christians, want to please God. To be His servants and follow His commandments.
We find happiness in the gospel and the truths we believe in. And we want others to know this joy as well. We want them to believe it. To hear and feel the holy ghost. To find a way to become better people and be happier for it.
Unfortunately most of the people we try to help feel judged, pressured and attacked. Even if we are being sincere, sensitive and easy going about it.

I get shamed even if I say things I believe such as...
"God's prophet President Nelson spoke to the church members today about COVID19." Saying this means I am being rude to anyone who doesn't believe President Nelson is a prophet. I can't say "God's Church" or "God's prophet" because that implicates that anyone who doesn't believe these are God's are wrong.

The world today is too sensitive. I can hardly grasp it because of true wickedness that is happening on the earth in foreign countries. Women and children being abused. People being tortured.
Then we have American scolding and hating American Christians for the simplest things. It doesn't make sense to me. There is so much to care about and take offense over. Bigger things that what your neighbor believes.

COVID 19 is a virus that is sweeping the earth. The illness itself doesn't do much harm to a healthy individual. It is, however, taking the lives of frail elderly.
The world today is so connected...not just virtually...physically. Humans travel all over the earth. Taking their germs with them.
This is why COVID 19, the Corona virus, is a problem. Trying to contain it is a problem.

It started in China and spread from there. Most countries are doing well to contain it. Anyone who is found to have it must be quarantined for two weeks(I believe).

It went through a nursing home in Washington and spread in that state. It became a big problem in Italy. It is spreading through California and has been found other places as well.
It has been found in Japan but has not spread. Despite Japan being jam packed with people, they have such good habits that it didn't spread. They wear face masks any time they are remotely ill, so they don't pass it to others. They wash their hands correctly.
The world is now taking those practices for the first time since I've been alive. Everyone wants masks, hand sanitizer, soap, two weeks supply of food and water, and toilet paper.

Americans started buying out all the toilet paper and other supplies they felt they needed. So much so that shelves in stores are completely bare in many places all over America.

Here at Yokota Air Base we are fine. There is no panic. The virus isn't here. We know there is a possibility of it coming because people travel and they do go off base then come back. But we are not worried. We are healthy.
Our stores are not running out of toilet paper. The shelves are mostly filled.
I went today to the Commissary and found the cheaper priced toilet paper shelves were bare. But there was still plenty of tp to choose from. The one things that is bare shelved...the dairy. No yogurts are available, hardly any butters and no specialty milks such as almond milk.

The LDS church closed it's doors a few weeks ago. Cancelling all meetings. The schools cancelled all trips off base. The hospital cancelled all appointments that were not extremely important. The Japanese schools, off base, all shut down.
The tourist attractions such as Disneyland and the Digital Art Museum have closed until further notice.

Meanwhile, over in America schools are closing one by one. The LDS church now has gone to worldwide church closure. All activities and meetings are cancelled. But the Prophet has prepared us for this with the At Home Family and Individual Study...Come Follow Me.

I don't believe this is why we have food storage and mental preparedness. I think something worse is coming in the near future. This worldwide issue is preparing the world for what is to come.
Hopefully this wakeup call to the world about how to properly wash your hands and how to wear masks to keep your germs to yourself will become a habit for humanity. That when this scare is gone they will be more aware and wise.

Japan has planned and prepare for many years to host the Olympics in Tokyo this summer! Summer of 2020! Now, the Corona virus going global is shutting everything down. Japan, so far, refuses to give up the Olympics. They have not yet cancelled it.

If somehow they do get lucky and the corona virus does not spread through Japan...how many people would attend the Olympics this year? The numbers would be few!
Previously so many people planned to attend the Olympics that a lottery was played. Not everyone could attend all the sports they wanted so their name was drawn to see which sport would be allowed to attend. Now, the numbers will be so few the lottery is probably obsolete.

And anyone performing in the Olympics might have to be quarantined 7 days before the Olympics and 7 days after.

I heard someone say that Japan is not testing their citizens for the COVID 19 because they dont' want to find it and have to cancel this amazing event.  That makes me worried! It could be spreading all over Japan!
But then someone else mentioned how great is the number of elderly in Japan. And I thought "If it were spreading around Japan there would be elderly deaths. And Japan would have no choice but to test their people." This isn't happening so, obviously it isn't here.

Salt Lake had a bigger than normal earthquake this week. It did some damage to buildings. It shook the homes etc and made things fall off shelves. Usually they don't get quakes like that. The last quake that big was in 1992.

Eliza and Chubbz moved away last year. They moved to Arizona from living by the Salt Lake temple.

Apparently, when the quake hit the area it shook the horn right out of the hands of the angel Moroni statue atop the temple itself! There are a lot of amusing memes about it on facebook currently.

These are my favorite two:
One was "Angel Moroni's response to most recent events..."
And the other...
My whole life we have been taught of the craziness that will happen in the day of my generation. And we've read of the scary world events that will happen before Christ comes.
This year....2020...is the first time I see the worldwide chaos. It is happening. It is scary.

Funny memes that are so accurate right now:
Here in Japan we usually have so many travel options. But with most places closing and the fear of catching the virus while out in Japan, and not being allowed to fly to other places...we are pretty much quarantined.

Here's another one...Japan is so determined to not cancel the Olympics ...
