Independance Weekend

Friday July 3 we went to the Provo balloon festival in the morning.

We met the whole clan for a water fight and visit at Pioneer Park. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, siblings, grandparents.

We went to the Purple Turtle for lunch and ice cream. Mmmmm...

Independence day 2015
Saturday morning we started our fun filled day by going to the Provo parade. Denise and her family (siblings and nieces etc) took turns saving a spot to sit to view the parade from since Friday afternoon I believe. They roped off a nice spot under a tree and the Wildes and Roundys filled it up! We even had blankets in front of the spot, on the street, where the kids sat with a few parents. And the few latest comers of our group stood on the sidewalk behind our spot.
It was my first time doing the 4th Celebrations in Provo with Sterling. It’s a big fun thing for them. Provo knows how to celebrate America’s independence. Sterling has missed participating in it ever since we got married it seems.
Apparently it’s usually really hot on the 4th of July in Provo. We were so blessed this year to have a cooler 4th of July! The parade was overcast and only heated up maybe halfway through the actual parade. Of course there was a preparade that included a lot of fun people coming by and lots of candy thrown to the kids.
Our favorite part was probably the Star Wars characters. They were the same ones who went to the hot air balloon games the day before. But this time we were able to see all of them. We did not see some of them at the balloon event like Qui Gon Jin. We love Star Wars!

After the parade we went to Dad and Mom’s house. Athena took a 30 minute nap.
Next on the agenda was the parties. We went to Greg and Mary Wilde’s home for the Wilde lunch party. It was a delicious barbecue potluck! They have a beautiful home and a beautiful yard. They have an amazing kids play house that even has it’s own little porch and porch swing…with a slide and sandbox too.
They rented a water slide bouncy house and brought out a tiny kiddie pool for the toddlers. We did not stay too much after lunch because we had a Roundy party to go to.

The Roundy pool party was at John and Beth’s home. The kids were anxious to get in the pool. Ty is always wishing we can go swimming because it’s something we just don’t pay to do.
Athena has not liked swimming or splash pad play in the past but the water has always been cold when we have tried. This pool was not cold. It was perfect. And Athena fell in love with swimming.
Sterling, Abi, the three kids and I all swam our share. Luke and Ty had floaties around them because the pool is deep for them. Athena discovered jumping into the pool and climbing out to do it again. She did that the whole time. Of course I had to catch her every time she jumped in and help her climb out.
She is a daring baby. She wanted to jump not to mom but to nobody. She would turn away and walk away from me to jump when I was not. I had to be quick to be near and fool her. To keep my arms away until she jumped then I would quickly catch her. She would go under the water (head too) half the time that way but she kept trying to jump away from me. We all had a blast.
Becky and Brenda made homemade ice cream for everyone. And there was homemade rootbeer as well.

We went back to Kelly and Denise’s home for a rest. That evening we left the kids with their grandparents to go to the Stadium of Fire. Dad dropped us off near BYU and we walked to the stadium.
It was Sterling, myself, Abi and Nicole. Nicole came with us while her dad, Matt, and her stepmom Maria were at the stadium to perform in the backup choir. It’s pretty cool. They were in a choir that sang backup for some famous people.
It was such a fun event although the backless benches are no fun for backs.
Olivia Holt was very unimpressive but Journey made it all worth it. We went to see Journey and they were awesome!! The Stadium of Fire performers did an awesome job. And the theme was military. They had an Air Force plane prop and a band that did Swing music. I loved it!
The fireworks at the end were as always amazing.
We got Nicole to Matt and Maria then Ster, Abi and I walked home. Traffic was insane. We were glad we walked…although Ster and I were both feeling sick.
I went right to bed. It was late and we had to get up early to drive to Cedar City. Alissa’s daughter Jasmine gets blessed today at church. So we got the kids up early and hit the road.

Here are pictures of the soda show. It was like the Bellagio water show but with Pepsi and antacids. The soda exploded to an insanely high and impressive height.
