Tournament of Kings

On the drive from Provo to Logandale on Sunday we stopped at Cove Fort. It was cold...much colder than we had expected. The wind was not our friend. But we did the tour of the fort.

Sterling and I remembering my grandparents when they served at Cove Fort. Karl and Deloris Ray had given us the tour a couple of times when we had visited. They have since passed on to the next life. We remember them and always will.

Sunday we arrived at my parents house in the afternoon. We met my dad there and we had a nice dinner together that evening. Sunday night at my parents house means...ice cream! :)

Monday I helped my mom in her preschool class. Down in the basement she has a huge space dedicated to preschool! It is wonderful! Athena joined the class for the day and had a nice time.

The boys had a great time relaxing and having fun at the grandparents' house that we rarely go to!
My dad fixed their motor bike and taught the boys to ride it in the field behind their property. Athena got to ride on the back as her grandpa drove, as well.
Tiberias likes to drive it. Luke was more scared than happy. But Sterling told Luke that he had to ride it atleast once a day to overcome his fear. And it worked! Luke is starting to ride the motor bike twice a day by choice.

Monday afternoon we drove with my parents to Las Vegas. On the strip we parked at the Excalibur. The weather was so warm and wonderful! Not too warm though.
Sterling enjoys going to the M&M World store on the strip. So we walked that way. Unfortunately...Sin City has become more sinful! In the past Ster and I would avoid the strip at night because of the scantly dressed showgirls that would wander around. We also heard that a certain area of the strip was more likely to have those "girls" than others...and we'd stay where we heard it was safe. The showgirls use to dress in bakini sized outfits with hats and large feathers...very showy.
This time on the strip we were there before 4pm and found the showgirls all down the strip! Walking around the street talking to everyone! Saying "Do you want to take your picture with us?" Waving and saying hello even to the children! And the worst part...their bikinis have dwindled to nipple covers and thongs! I was shocked. I was upset that they would dare speak to my children! 1) How can this be legal?! 2) How can these women be comfortable walking about practically naked with children and so many people around...in public?! Ster and I are appalled!

On our way to the store we found Hershey's store. So we stopped in there first. That was fun but not as fun as M&M World. So we continued on. We watched the awesome 10 minute free movie experience they offer there. We had a good time!

After walking a little more we saw Iron Spider (Spiderman)! That was cool. Ty loves him!
We even ran into Minnie and Mickey Mouse on a bridge over the busy traffic! Athena hugged them both and they spoke to her! Like being at Disneyland!

We walked to the Excalibur and attended the show we came to the city for...the Tournament of Kings.
We sat in a great spot in the front row. It was a 6:00 show ...so not too late that my children should be sleepy. However, we did walk them a lot and that made Athena tired. We had hoped that walking would put them in the mood to sit for over an hour during the show. And cause them to be hungry enough to eat whatever dinner we serve them.

Dinner and a show
Pros: The food was great! We each received potatoes, cooked broccoli, a biscuit and a Cornish game hen. It was delicious! Ty loved the food. He is a big meat lover. Luke and Athena ate some of the food but not much of their meat.
And dessert...an apple fritter.
The show was so fun. We felt like it was the renaissance time as we witnessed Merlin the wizard, a court jester, a king, jousting, soldiers, sword fighting, Royalty/knights on horses ready to go head to head in challenges and even a princess with a dancing horse.
The swords sparked as they clashed against each other in each fight. Fire was a much used tool in the show. You could feel the heat at times!
And even the affect of real fireworks going off at the end (of course, they were not real fireworks but someone did a great job at making it look like it).

Cons: The event was a loud one. The guests (us) were expected to be loud and rowdy...the whole time! As we ate and as we watched. If we were not loud enough the actors would make us try again. They wanted to hear us the whole time. That was hard. To eat and cheer and be loud at the same time! lol
And Athena did not like that the noise did not stop. She was unhappy about the noise at the beginning. She enjoyed the show once she had her food to eat and the jousting was occurring. But then she got tired and hated the noise again. I held her on my lap as she plugged her ears and turned away from the show.

Tiberias enjoyed the whole thing much more than the other kids. Luke liked it. But Ty was in heaven! The action! The meat! The fun of the show!

Renaissance is one of those things I always wanted to experience. I got close to it when I went to the Renaissance Fair in Las Vegas once. But this was much cooler! I love the jousting!

After the show we drove back to Vegas. Athena slept on the drive.

Tuesday morning I helped mom with her preschool class again. Athena did not want to be in the class so I let her do her own thing. Sterling helped my boys do some homework during that time.

Tuesday afternoon Ster and I left Logandale for a romantic getaway. We drove to Mesquite, NV to stay in a hotel without the kids. We got a fancy large room! A suite, I guess. With a huge jet bathtub in the center.

Our children stayed with their grandparents and had a bonfire in the backyard.
